What’s a Community Interest Company?
So here’s the deal - Shred Academy isn’t a normal business. We’re set up as a Community Interest Company (CIC). What that really means is simple: instead of profits going into pockets, everything we make goes straight back into the riders, the sessions, and the community.
When you pay for a coaching session, course, buy a hoodie, or come along to one of our events, you’re not just helping one person - you’re fuelling the whole scene. Every penny gets reinvested into things like:
- Better coaching and training facilities
- Safer equipment and insurance
- Community jams and progression days
- Rider development and mental health support
It’s all about making sure the scooter community - from the little groms just rolling in for the first time, to the senders chasing bigger tricks - has the support, space, and energy to grow strong.
Why we chose this route
We could’ve set up as a regular company, sure. But honestly? That didn’t feel right. The goal has never been to just make money - it’s to build a family around scooters and action sports, where kids learn confidence, resilience, and respect alongside their tricks.
By being a CIC, we’re locked in to that mission. It keeps us accountable. Parents, councils, and riders know this isn’t about quick wins - it’s about a long-term vision: strong riders with strong, positive minds.
Preparing the next generation
Progression isn’t only about landing a tailwhip or sticking a new grind. It’s about developing a growth mindset: learning that every fall is just part of the journey, that consistency beats shortcuts, and that cheering each other on is as important as landing it yourself.
We want to prepare riders for professional careers if they want to go that way - giving them the skills, coaching, and community support to chase comps and sponsorships. But we also want every rider, at every level, to leave sessions with more confidence than they came in with.
Community first, always
The scooter scene is special. It’s creative, it’s supportive, and it’s built on kids and families who just love to ride. Our promise as a Community Interest Company is to protect that - to make sure the park feels safe, inclusive, and inspiring for everyone.
So when you see “CIC” next to Shred Academy, you know this: we’re here for the riders, not for the profit.
If you want to get involved - as a rider, parent, partner, or venue - we’d love to hear from you. The more we build together, the more kids we can keep stoked, safe, and progressing.
