Report a concern
We take every concern about a child or young person’s safety seriously.
If something doesn’t feel right - speak up.
You won’t get in trouble for raising a concern, and it could help protect someone.
How to Report a Concern
If you are a coach, volunteer, parent, or participant, and you’re worried about:
- A child’s safety or wellbeing
- Something you’ve seen or heard that feels wrong
- Bullying, neglect, or unsafe behaviour by anyone involved
- Or if a child tells you something that worries you
Please follow these steps:
If someone is in immediate danger
Call 999 or go straight to the nearest responsible adult or coach.
Then inform the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) as soon as possible.
Speak to our Welfare Team
You can speak directly to:
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):
Bernard Harding - info@shredacademy.co.uk
Deputy DSL:
Danny Clements - info@shredacademy.co.uk
Or tell any Shred Academy coach - they’ll help you pass your concern to the right person quickly and confidentially.
What happens next:
- The DSL or Deputy DSL will review your concern and decide what action is needed.
- This may include speaking with the young person, contacting parents/carers, or referring to safeguarding services.
- You will be kept informed where possible (while respecting confidentiality).
- All information is stored securely in line with GDPR and safeguarding law.
For Children and Young Riders - Speak Up!
Worried about something? You can always talk to us.
At Shred Academy, everyone has the right to feel safe, happy, and respected.
If something doesn’t feel right - about a coach, another rider, a parent, or anyone at the park - please tell someone.
Who can you talk to?
- Any Shred Academy coach – they are here to help, not to get anyone in trouble.
- Bernie (DSL) – you can ask to speak to him privately or email info@shredacademy.co.uk
- Danny (Deputy DSL) - you can also tell him if you’d rather talk to someone else.
- Your parent or carer - they can contact us for you.
How to tell us:
- In person: Talk to a coach before or after your session.
- By message or email: Send a short message to info@shredacademy.co.uk saying you want to talk about something private.
- By form: You can fill in a Report a Concern form at the skatepark or ask a coach to help you.
What will happen:
- We will listen carefully to what you say.
- You will not get in trouble.
- We might need to tell someone else (like another coach or a social worker) to keep you or someone else safe - but we will tell you if we need to do that.
Always remember:
If you or someone you know is ever in danger or being hurt, you can always call 999 and ask for help.
Our Promise
You are part of the Shred Squad.
That means:
- You deserve to feel safe and respected.
- You will always be listened to.
- We will act quickly to help and protect you.
